Napoli president and owner Aurelio De Laurentiis has been quick to dismiss the idea that there was some form of rivalry between himself and Inter president Steven Zhang, following Zhang’s appointment to the European Club Association board.

“We were running for different roles. Zhang and I respect each other and we would never have competed for the same place, if anything we would have agreed something previously,” he insisted in an interview with broadcaster Sky Sport.

“I am focused on the club competition committee. There is a lot of work to do. There are so many things to fix. We are already talking about how the cups will look in 2027 and there have been various hypotheses.

“The world is however constantly evolving and we must be careful when it comes to trying to predict what is ahead without ever adapting otherwise we would find ourselves at a disadvantage. If things are planned for the good of all, then the world of football stands to benefit.”
