Samuel Eto’o believes he is the greatest ever player to have hailed from the continent of Africa just days after announcing his retirement from football.

The Cameroonian called time on a highly-successful 21 year playing career that began at Real Madrid back in 1997 and ended this year in Qatar with Qatar SC.

“I know that someone else will come and do better than me, I know I am not eternal. I also know that I was a unique player. I am the best player from Africa. The others know it and must accept it,” he remarked in an interview with RFI.

The 38-year-old spent two years on Inter’s books but played an absolutely pivotal role in the club capturing the historic treble in his first season with the club.

All in all, Eto’o made 67 appearances across all competitions for Inter in which he tallied 33 goals prior to moving to Anzhi Makhachkala
