Inter president Steven Zhang has shared his hopes for the eradication of racism following the recent incident involving Inter’s Romelu Lukaku.
During Inter’s 2-1 away victory over Cagliari the Belgian striker was targeted and subjected to monkey chants by a portion of Cagliari supporters as he prepared to take a penalty – which he would convert and win Inter the game with.
“These things should not happen in our stadiums. I really hope football matches can be a delivering force to educate people around world. This competition is for positive attitudes and inclusion,” he explained in an interview with the media upon his election onto the ECA board.
“It is for people to get better education and better understanding of each other. That is reason why we participate in sports and why football exists, not for violence and racism. I really hope, in San Siro, in Italy and all European competitions it will not happen again.”
