Two out of every three Summer transfer window signings made by clubs in Serie A saw a foreign player transferred, Rome based news outlet La Repubblica have highlighted.

No less than 182 transfers were completed by Serie A clubs over the recently ended Summer transfer window but just 60 of those to join a new club were in fact Italian.

The most expensive transfers conducted by clubs all involved foreign players with Juventus’ capture of Dutchman Matthijs de Ligt costing them a sum of €86 million whilst Inter signed Belgian international Romelu Lukaku for €65 million from Manchester United.

Other high profile foreign transfers include the arrival of Alexis Sanchez at Inter, Henrikh Mkhitaryan at Roma, Ante Rebic at AC Milan and Hirving Lozano at Napoli.

Overall, a total of 41% of players playing in Serie A at the moment are Italian with the three newly promoted sides in Lecce, Hellas Verona and Brescia having the highest number of Italian players in their ranks.
