Flamengo manager Jorge Jesus has spoken on the transformation of Gabriel ‘Gabigol’ Barbosa during his loan spell with the Mengao.
The Brazilian youngster joined Flamengo back in January and has been in sensational form for them, which can largely be put down to being played in a new role by Jesus.
“When I think about a centre forward, I think of something else as both Gabriel Barbosa and Bruno are adapted centre forwards, they have different characteristics,” he said in an interview with Globo Esporte.
“Bruno and Gabi are both wingers, even if the latter has begun to play more centrally lately. When Gabigol was at Benfica and Inter, he did not play much but he was always lined up on the wing. Now I am trying to get the most out of him at striker.”
Gabigol has grabbed 29 goals across all competitions since his arrival and Flamengo have made it known that they wish to sign him permanently.
