Journalist Luigi Garlando has discussed Inter president Steven Zhang’s appointment to the board of the European Club Association.

Zhang became the first Chinese representative on the ECA board yesterday and is one of two representatives for Italian football, with the other being president Andrea Agnelli.

“He grew up in the modern era where distance does not matter as technology means news can get out before it can get in the paper,” Garlando wrote as part of his column in today’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport.

“He is patient and at 28, already the president of Inter, he has now got onto the executive board of the European Club Association in a role of considerable responsibility.

“He is a wise young man who is in a hurry. In Geneva yesterday he made a good impression with thanks to his clarity and fresh ideas. He feels ready.”

He concluded: “With this appointment, it is further proof that Inter, who are in the Champions League for a second year running, is rising to a higher international status.”
