The current UEFA continental club competitions will not be reformed prior to 2022 according to a report from Gazzetta dello Sport.

There has been a lot of talk about reform, particularly when it comes to the Champions League, with reports suggesting a more traditional league format with promotion and relegation could be introduced.

The European Club Association’s suggestion of four groups of eight with the top 24 sides staying in the competition for the following season has been met with disappointment by clubs across Europe who feel tournament organisers are trying to take away from domestic competitions.

The report from the Milan based news outlet goes on to report that in little under two weeks time, plans for a third continental club competition will also be approved.

The new tournament, which is as yet without a name, will be played on Thursday night’s just like the Europa League and will commence in 2021.
