Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni has explained why Lautaro Martinez was substituted despite scoring a first half hat-trick in last night’s 4-0 rout of Mexico.

“We knew the style of play Mexico had as we had studied them and we played the perfect match,” he remarked in an interview with TyC Sports.

“Lautaro Martinez? We had already planned the change in the middle of the match because he arrived with a slight injury problem but we hope he always has the same problem [if it means he scores like this].”
