Speaking in an interview with Milan based news outlet Corriere della Sera, Gian Piero Gasperini has reminisced about his brief stint as manager of Inter.

The current Atalanta manager was not even in the post for as long as four months when the club decided to sack him after he won just one of his five Serie A matches.

“I don’t know what went wrong but certainly at that moment the team were in difficulty and continued to have difficulties even after my sacking. I came out strong from my experience at Inter. My sacking certainly gave me reasons to show that they were wrong. It was more of a misstep from Inter than from myself,” he explained.

Gasperini then spoke on the race for the 2019/20 Serie A title.

“Juventus remains the strongest side. I would like to hope that Napoli and Inter can create problems for them. With Maurizio Sarri in charge, I think they want to try and win the Champions League otherwise if they were just  after eight league titles they would have stuck with Massimiliano Allegri.”
