Samir Handanovic is hopeful that Inter can progress past the group stage in this year’s edition of the Champions League having only narrowly missed out last season.

“The expectations are as high as they were last year. We did not get through the group stage and this year we will try again, in a difficult group again,” he said in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport.

“The three victories in the league give us confidence but we are aware that we still have to work. Of course it is better for us to continue to win.”

Speaking on this evening’s opponents, the Slovenian shot-stopper made it clear that he and his teammates know that things will not be easy for them.

“A tough opponent is waiting for us and they know what they want from the match. They are an experienced team and we have to think only about this match for the time being.”
