Inter Defender Diego Godin: “The Energy Between The Team, Coach, Club & Fans Is Fundamental”

Diego Godin has spoken on a range of topics as part of an interview with Inter’s official match day programme ahead of this evening’s match against Slavia Prague.

“It’s the people who make a club great. The energy that is created between the team, the coach, the club and the fans is fundamental,” he began.

“I have always been a fan of football, and I was more passionate about it because it is a team sport. The defender, like the goalkeeper, sees the whole field and has a great responsibility: they must convey a sense of security. This is my way of interpreting the role: thinking about the team.”

“My main job is to defend but then there is also the instinct that leads me to push myself into the opposing box on set pieces. I always give my best. I want to help the team out on the field.”

He then went on to speak about experience with him being one of the most experienced players in the side.

“Experience is not a title, it is achieved by experiencing certain situations. I always say ‘Either you win or you learn.’ Every tenth of a second earned is necessary to win, especially for an intense, orderly and structured team like the ours.”
