Milan Skriniar has shared his disappointment at he and his teammates performance in their 1-1 draw against Slavia Prague in the opening match of the Champions League group stage.

“In my opinion, we faced an opponent who was more difficult than any of the three we have face in the league so far this season,” he said in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sports.

The Slovakian then went on to state that he knows he had to do better himself.

“If I had played how I was playing at the end of the match from the beginning, it would have been a different match. We were sleeping at times and that is not good.

“The first game is always the most important, but there are five more where we have absolutely got to do better with more energy and personality.

“We struggled in the build-up phase. We must absolutely analyse this game and clearly work out where things went wrong because you cannot play the first game in the Champions League how we did.”

He concluded by looking ahead to the Milan derby this weekend: “We will now play the derby and will do so with more desire. From tomorrow, we will focus only on winning against Milan.”
