Daniele Doveri will be refereeing his first ever Derby della Madonnina as he takes charge of this weekend’s match between AC Milan and Inter, Gazzetta dello Sport have highlighted.

The 42-year-old has been a referee in Serie A since 2010 and has also refereed matches both continentally and internationally.

Whilst Doveri’s assignment has come as a bit of a surprise given he has no experience in the fixture, the Milan based news outlet go on to explain that with the likes of the more experienced Daniele Orsato being assigned to referee elsewhere and Gianluca Rocchi being given a weekend to rest after refereeing in the Champions League, the list of eligible candidates was certainly restricted.

Doveri will be assisted by Sergio Ranghetti and Alessandro Lo Cicero on Saturday night whilst Fabio Maresca will be the fourth official.

Massimiliano Irrati will be in charge of the handling of VAR at San Siro and he will be assisted by Ciro Carbone.
