Former Inter midfielder Fabio Galante has explained why he feels the Milan derby is different to many others and his thoughts on both Inter and AC Milan heading into the game.

“The derbies are games in their own right, neither the league placing nor the form that the teams are in matter. The match will be played with lots of emotion. Inter and AC Milan are both excellent teams, they are both very strong,” he said in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sport Mediaset.

As part of the interview, Galante, who spent three years at Inter and was part of the 1997/98 UEFA Cup winning side, also recalled one of his favourite Derby della Madonnina memories.

“When playing with Ronaldo we managed to never lose a derby. I remember the Milan derby back in 1997/98 when we won 3-0. Ronie scored a chip that day and Diego Simeone scored too.”

The first Milan derby of the 2019/20 season will take place on Saturday with kick-off scheduled for 20:45 local time.
