The new Italian minister for sport, Vincenzo Spadafora, is set to meet with officials from Italian football’s governing body, FIGC, and Serie A to discuss the ongoing issue of racism according to a report from Milan based news outlet Gazzetta dello Sport.
There have been no less than four racist incidents in Serie A already at this early stage of the season with Inter’s Romelu Lukaku the first victim, AC Milan’s Franck Kessie the second, Fiorentina’s Dalbert third and most recently Juventus’ Miralem Pjanic, who was targeted last night by Brescia fans.
Spadafora is to meet with FIGC president Gabriele Gravina and Serie A president Gaetano Miccichè in the coming weeks and will share his plans for ideas on how racism can be tackled.
He will raise the point that he wishes to see clubs punished for underestimating incidents concerning fans of their club and not appropriately dealing with the situation among other things.
