The City of Milan are likely to delay their decision over whether to declare a public interest in Inter and AC Milan’s new stadium beyond the original date of 10th October, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

The delay is a result of a meeting between Nerazzurri representative Mark Van Huuksloot, Rossoneri representative Domenico Barile and municipal councillors following the public presentation.

The city council is asking for an in-depth examination of the demolition of the current San Siro, as well as the costs and times expected for the construction. Inter and Milan are not opposed to the delay as long as it is not excessive and allows the project to move forward swiftly.

The Municipality’s Democratic Party leader Filippo Barberis said: “The restructuring project of the San Siro presented by the teams is inconvenient because it is expensive and long. There would be a suspension of matches for four years.

“We want to understand why this idea has been taken into account and not others that have been discussed in the past, which are less expensive and will take a shorter amount of time. There must be no doubt that this solution has been proposed because it is functional to the demolition of San Siro.”
