Former Inter forward Ivan Perisic spoke to media outlet The Athletic about negotiations that took place two years ago between Inter and Premier League side Manchester United.

“I was very close [to signing for Manchester United]. It was great when Mourinho called me, it’s hard to say no to him. I really wanted to join him and play for United.”

“It was one of my dreams to play in all the big leagues, but it didn’t happen. It was difficult for me but I don’t want to go into detail. I discovered the real reasons why it didn’t happen two years later.”

The Croatian also spoke of his time under Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp during his time at Borussia Dortmund.

“I wasn’t ready. I wasn’t used to defending, I didn’t even know it was a game with two phases. Jurgen taught me modern football and I have to say thank you for that.”

“We achieved the double in the first year but when I saw that in the second year my situation did not change, I wanted to leave. I told him that I wanted to play regularly, and he told me that he respected my decision and we would find a solution.”
