It was the team at the top of the Serie A vs the team at the very bottom at the Luigi Ferraris and it showed in the first half, where Inter had Di Francesco’s men running around in circles and were comfortably ahead at halftime.

However, Sanchez was sent off within the first 100 seconds of the second half and Inter conceded soon after. That would usually mean that Inter would drop points, but Conte made a couple of changes and ended up going home with the 3 points.

Samir Handanovic – 6.5: Could have read a book in the first half, until Sanchez was sent off. Had a lot more to do in the second. Couldn’t do much on the goal which was a deflected shot.

Milan Skriniar – 6.5: Moved to the right side yet still as stable as ever in the back 3. Caught napping once in the first half and maybe should have shut out Jankto a bit sooner for the goal.

Stefan de Vrij – 7: As always the silent policeman, waiting for any accidents to happen so he can get there before the opponent. Moves the ball with such confidence.

Alessandro Bastoni – 6.5: The early booking made things difficult and the tiredness was getting to him but in his mind he had the determination to stay and fight on his debut.

Antonio Candreva – 6.5: When in tune, there aren’t many players out there who interpret this role better. Too bad that Inter needed more defensive solidity after Alexis was sent off.

Roberto Gagliardini – 7: A silent worker who clocked up the miles. Took a few knocks and should have had an assist. Got his reward finally but that was all about Brozovic.

Marcelo Brozovic – 8.5: If you are want to be a regista, just watch and learn from his first half. Masterclass. Epic. Showed his determination of steel in the second half, played like a man possessed.

Stefano Sensi – 7: For someone that short in stature, he does very well in 50-50 balls against big midfielders. Can play the rough bit. Deserved his goal. What a signing!

Kwadwo Asamoah – 6.5: Doesn’t use his right foot like Biraghi does, but defensively he’s faultless as usual. The only negative thing is that he should have buried the chance he had in the first half.

Lautaro Martinez – 6.5: Lautaro had an OK start to the game, he gave his all but as the game grew, his understanding with Sanchez got better. Taken off due to physical requirement of the game.

Alexis Sanchez – 5.5: Was involved in everything in the first half, as if he had been around forever. Then a moment of madness made the game much more difficult for Inter.

Romelu Lukaku – 6: Brought on to flatten the Sampdoria defence with his strength and whenever he got the chance, he managed just that. Should have scored when through on goal.

Danilo D’Ambrosio – 5.5: Danilo deserved a rest after the last few games where he has been great. Was needed to come off the bench and seal off the right side of the defence.

Nicolo Barella – 6: Conte made the right move as it helped preserve Sensi for the upcoming week and it added the pace and class Inter needed to hang on to the three points.

Antonio Conte – 7: When a man down and the lead cut in half, he made two quick substitutions and said a few words to the players ensuring that Samporia didn’t do any further damage. Made 7 changes to ensure everyone is fresh.

Gianpaolo Calvarese – 3.5: No complaints on the red card. The problem arises when he doesn’t even book Murru for something that was bordering on red. Inconsistent.

Inter – 7.5: The growth mentally over a summer is unbelievable. Inter regrouped after 2 big blows in the second half and managed to even extend the lead with only 10 men.

Agree? Disagree? Should Alexis be buying his team-mates drinks to make up for his red card?
