Luigi Garlando has taken a look at the comparisons that some have tried to make between former Inter manager Jose Mourinho and current manager Antonio Conte.

“Guardiola called Ibrahimovic to the sideline and Mourinho came up behind him and whispered: ‘Pep, if you think you will progress, you’re wrong.’ At the end of Inter’s epic resistance, they were then in the final for the first time in 38 years,” he wrote in his column today for Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Today there is another coach in charge at Inter who knows how to inflate the hearts of his own players and deflate the heart of the others. Antonio Conte has been quick to shut down comparisons to Jose Mourinho and his Inter side though. Conte’s has stressed that his team are at the beginning of a journey.

“Conte has a young team that must play their game and not just try and resist Barcelona. Conte expects another step of growth from his side but it will not be easy. Inter must try to do as much as they can.”

Garlando also discussed the possibility of Lionel Messi missing out.

“Perhaps Messi will be missing, but he was also missing last year and in 2009 when Mou’s Inter was also beaten 2-0. In any case, Barcelona still have De Jong, Suarez, Griezmann and many others. The Camp Nou is a scary place even when it is empty.”
