Football finance expert Marco Bellinazzo has shared his hopes that Inter and AC Milan can change the minds of the Milan city council who, as per reports, do not seem keen on the idea of a new stadium being built.

“Inter currently get €30/35 million from their current stadium but from a new one they could get even more than Juve is getting from theirs,” he said in an interview with Sky Sport Italia.

“There needs to be a public interest in the project and at this moment the orientation of the city council would seem more negative compared to an enthusiasm that I would instead expected. I hope that the clubs can change their minds because the restructuring of the San Siro cannot be done for economic and security reasons.”

Bellinazzo also discussed the topic of shirt sponsorship amid claims in the media that Evergrande could replace Pirelli in the coming years.

“Pirelli’s contract is worth €17-18 million but Inter is now negotiating with Evergrande for them to succeed Pirelli in 2021. They could be interested in becoming the main sponsor and could see Inter almost double their revenues from shirt sponsorship.”
