Ex-Inter Midfielder Andy Van Der Meyde: “Inter & Juve On The Same Level”

Former Inter forward Andy Van der Meyde spoke to Italian media outlet Juvenews.eu today to discuss tonight’s Derby d’Italia. The 40-year-old Dutchman couldn’t pick a winner tonight.

“It’s a really difficult match. Until last year I would have told you Juve hands down but this year the Nerazzurri have strengthened a lot and in my opinion, they both are starting on a level playing field, for the first time in many years.”

He then discussed the emotions that run through an Inter player when they face Juventus.

“The game against Juve is the game of the year and as a player, the best game you can play. Every time we had to face Juve, we had already been mentally preparing for a month before, even though we knew we would have to play other games before, but our heads were already going to the challenge against the Bianconeri.”

Van der Meyde believes that Inter are more suited to fight Juventus for the league title than Napoli are.

“Without a shadow of a doubt Inter. I see them as much more ready than Napoli at the moment and I think that with Conte they can continue like this until the end of the season.”

He couldn’t pick a favourite between Cristiano Ronaldo and former Inter striker Ronaldo.

“They’re completely different players from completely different eras, they can’t be compared in my opinion. Both have made history in this sport.”

The former Inter forward then discussed Nerazzurri midfielder Stefano Sensi.

“Sensi has all the qualities to become a staple of any team. He reminds me very much of Frankie De Jong from Ajax, another young talent who, together with De Ligt, will write pages of history.”

Finally, he gave his opinion on who deserved the Ballon d’Or this season.

“There’s no doubt, the only one who deserves it is Messi and Lukaku will become one of the strongest players in the world.”
