Inter are looking to strengthen their midfield in the upcoming January transfer window, with Manchester United’s Nemanja Matic being a potential target, according to today’s paper edition of the Rome based newspaper Corriere dello Sport.
The 31-year-old Serbian’s contract expires with the Red Devils next summer and so far, there have been no discussions to extend it further, the report details, adding that the player’s relationship with coach Ole Gunnar Solskjær has deteriorated.
Inter coach Antonio Conte has worked with Matic at Chelsea during his time with the South London club, with Conte deploying the 31-year-old in 35 league games during the Blues’ title winning 2016/17 season.
The report also highlights that the Red Devils may not expect too much compensation for the midfielder due to his expiring contract and age, whereas another key midfield target Ivan Rakitic is still contracted to Barcelona until 2021, suggesting a more expensive deal for the Nerazzurri.
