Gabriele Gravina, the president of FIGC, the Italian football federation, has confirmed that buy-back clauses as part of transfers have been abolished in Italian football.

The news comes after several deals were completed during recent transfer windows which saw several young players swap clubs with inflated fees attached in a way for the selling clubs to produce higher capital gains on the player(s) in question to help them circumvent UEFA’s financial fair play system in a way.

“We monitor player exchanges which may be suspicious and for this reason we have abolished the buy-back clause,” he remarked in an interview in today’s paper edition of Roma based newspaper La Repubblica.

The abolition of buy-back clauses will have no affect on Inter. The Nerazzurri do have gentlemen’s agreements with some clubs relating to some players, namely with Genoa to buy back Andrea Pinamonti, but these sort of agreements are viewed differently
