Inter Defender Milan Skriniar: “All We Can Do Is Win Our Game & Wait”

Inter defender Milan Skriniar may not appear in next summer’s European Championships, following Slovakia’s 3-1 defeat last night by Croatia. The squad are now fourth in their qualifying group. Skriniar spoke to international media outlet Sport24 after the game.

“I’m sorry, of course. When it was 2-1, we thought we could still do it. We didn’t lose just because of the red card, although obviously it was more difficult afterwards. I remember that when we needed the help of other teams we never succeeded.”

He then touched on the importance of Slovakia’s next game against Azerbaijan as well as a more detailed reflection on the game.

“All we can do is win our game and wait. We had a great result at half time, but in the second half everything changed, and we conceded the three goals. In the first half we did the work that the coach had told us to, playing deep and waiting for any opportunities. We scored goals, it’s a shame that we didn’t follow up this performance in the second half. We conceded the first two goals because of very stupid mistakes.”
