Inter midfielder Nicolo Barella spoke to Italian broadcaster RAI Sport yesterday following Italy’s 9-1 win in their final Euro 2020 qualifying game. The Italian midfielder scored Italy’s third goal.

“I’m certainly happy for the goal and also for my teammates who made their debut and scored. We’re having fun, we want to continue to do well.”

“We’re happy because the fans show us their affection, earning it was the most important and difficult thing. New confidence with the goal? Let’s hope so, but let’s not say it. Let’s see in the next games.”

The 22-year-old Italian was substituted off at half time yesterday by coach Roberto Mancini. He discussed his minutes with the Azzurri in this international break.

“If Conte will be angry because I played too much? I think the coach is also happy with my goal and Biraghi’s performance: we need these matches to gain international experience.”

“We’re a younger squad than the others, but the carefree attitude will lead us to do something great. Even with the help of those who have played the most games.”
