The biggest obstacle between Gabriel ‘Gabigol’ Barbosa joining Flamengo permanently is his bumper salary according to a report from Brazilian news outlet Globo Esporte.

Gabigol is currently on loan with the Rubronegro club until the end of next month and they have not made a secret of the fact that they are desperate to keep a hold of him by signing him on a permanent basis.

The two clubs are understood to already have an agreement in principle over his transfer but it remains to be seen whether Flamengo will be able to fulfil the 23-year-old striker’s salary demands with the Brazilian international on around €3.5 million annually at Inter, a truly significant figure for a Brazilian club to pay a player.

Flamengo will continue to work hard to reach a deal for the former Santos striker, whose goals have fired them to Copa Libertadores and Brazilian Serie A glory this season.
