Former Inter player turned pundit and commentator, Daniele ‘Lele’ Adani has defended himself following some criticism online with regards to the way he celebrated Romelu Lukaku’s goal for Inter in the 3-1 win over Slavia Prague.
“In games there are moments when the palpitations are high, moments in which everything you have prepared from a tactical point of view does not matter anymore. Emotion prevails over everything,” he explained in an interview which appeared in today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport.
“On Champions League nights it is special. For example, commentating on the big comebacks and not getting excited is really difficulty. There is a phase when we try to explain how the coaches have prepared things and I feel like I am managing the teams myself.
“I try to put myself in the position of someone who sits and watches the game on the sofa and I imagine that people at home, when faced with certain situations will allow their emotions to be unleashed.
“Lukaku deserved to score after the goal he first scored was chalked off. Some players have incredible stories behind them. There are guys who come from absolute poverty and go on to success and these stories deserve to be told with enthusiasm.”
