Inter will attempt to sign striker Lautaro Martinez to a new and improved contract next year according to a report in today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport.

The 22-year-old Argentine international has been on fire so far this season and has already bettered last season’s goal tally with more than half of the season still to play.

Lautaro is currently under contract with the club until the end of the 2022/23 season and earns just €1.5 million a year, a salary which is extremely small given what he has achieved this term and promises to achieve in the future at the club.

Inter view him as an investment not only for the present but also for the future and it remains to be seen whether a new contract will deter reported interest in his services. Barcelona are believed to be extremely keen on signing him as a replacement for Luis Suarez whilst a number of others have also been linked.
