Inter and AC Milan will move their new stadium project elsewhere if a feasible solution for the future of San Siro is not found according to a report in today’s print edition of Corriere della Sera.
The two clubs met with the Milan city council once more yesterday and a decision on the future of San Siro seems no closer.
The clubs wanted to completely demolish San Siro as part of their new stadium project and build commercial areas, offices and hotels among other things on top of the land where San Siro would have previously stood.
Locals and the council however showed fierce opposition to this idea and it looks like San Siro will more than likely be staying but in which capacity remains to be seen.
It has been widely suggested in the media that San Siro could be downsized and used for youth and women’s football but were the stadium to remain, it would only serve to scupper the club’s plans.
The Sesto San Giovanni area of the city has been mentioned several times in the media as a potential alternative destination to build a new stadium with private land available to buy meaning the clubs would not be under anywhere near as many restrictions.
