Inter are thinking about bringing in Dries Mertens as a free agent once his contract expires at the end of the season according to a report from FCInterNews.it.
A new contract from current employers Napoli does not seem forthcoming and despite receiving generous offers from both MLS and China, the 32-year-old would rather remain in Italy. He would like a two year contract with a salary of €6 million net per season.
Inter’s main priority ahead of the January transfer window is to reinforce the midfield department but from February onward, they will then turn their attention to the Summer transfer window which could well see them land Mertens.
Mertens could come in and be a solid alternative option in the attack to compatriot Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez.
This season he has made 18 appearances across all competitions. In just over 1200 minutes, he has scored eight goals and provided two assists.
