Romelu Lukaku could play an important role in Inter signing several of his compatriots in the not so distant future according to a report in today’s print edition of Turin newspaper Tuttosport.

Inter have drawn links to Dries Mertens, Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld in recent weeks and months with all three of them having contracts that expire come the end of the season.

Lukaku could give Inter a real hand in trying to convince the trio to choose Inter over the many options they are likely to have to continue their careers by pitting in a good word about the club and the staff etc.

The report goes on to explain that Mertens would like a three year contract with an annual salary of €4.5 million. With Jose Mourinho’s arrival at Spurs, it remains to be seen what it will mean for both Vertonghen and Alderweireld.

Had Mauricio Pochettino remained in charge it would have been easier for Inter to land the pair but with Mourinho in charge now the two players could be convinced to sign on again with the north London club.
