Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis spoke with former Inter coach Luciano Spalletti on the phone yesterday, to discuss a potential coaching role at the club if he decides to dismiss Carlo Ancelotti, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Rome based newspaper Corriere dello Sport.
The report details how De Laurentiis was only exploring the option and hasn’t yet decided on the fate of Ancelotti, who is struggling to maintain consistency with the Partenopei in his second season in charge.
However, Spalletti being one of the potential options is good news for the Nerazzurri and their management. Due to the fact that Spalletti was dismissed by the Nerazzurri before his contract expired with the Milanese club, Inter are still paying his wages, the report highlights.
However, if he is appointment as the new coach of Napoli, then Inter will no longer have to pay him, further reducing their outgoing expenses. Other potential options for the role include Gennaro Gattuso and Massimiliano Allegri.
