As part of an interview with Italian radio station Radio Anch’io Lo Sport, Francesco Toldo has explained why he settled for being back-up to Julio Cesar at Inter in the final years of his career.

“I did not want to move my family from Milan. I felt that I was going to win with Inter and I would have regretted leaving. I had given my best in a period of great controversy and I was later rewarded,” he said.

“At the time, Inter was like a national team. We had 17-18 players who could all be starters. I was happy. I have some regrets but I had a wonderful career.”

Toldo then shared his thoughts on Antonio Conte’s Inter, who are currently sitting at the top of the table in Serie A.

“I am happy for Inter because after years of scrambling about there is now some stability. I really like Conte because he has given something to the team that maybe was not there in previous years. In January Inter will surely buy some players.”
