Diego Godin has insisted that the team will have to play a ‘perfect match’ if they wish to beat Barcelona and progress to the knockout stages of the Champions League.

“It is clear that it is up to us to try and win the game. We have this in mind. It will be a difficult match against Barcelona, regardless of who does and does not play for them. They are always one of the best and we know it will be a very complicated match. We will have to give 110% to win and hope to get the result that we need,” he remarked in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia.

“Barcelona will be prepared to face us knowing how we can play. They have a lot of individual quality that can cause problems for us at any time. It is clear that we need to play a perfect match.

“We need to play with the same courage and personality that we did at Camp Nou for 90 minutes, not 45, 50, 60 or 70.”

He was then asked if he has been surprised by the quality of the team that he has joined.

“I knew who I was joining, the project and all that was behind it. Of course we were all hoping for good results, this is what I came here for. I want to help the team grow and remain among the best clubs in the world.

“We are on the right track. In the league we are doing well with all the difficulties that we have had, so many of the team are unavailable. In the Champions League we hope to qualify knowing that a match like this, whether we win or lose, can only help us to grow.”
