Having been awarded the Bola de Patra award for his performances for Flamengo this season, Gabriel ‘Gabigol’ Barbosa shared his hopes to continue playing for Flamengo past the end of this year.

“I hope to be here next year to try to win other individual and team prizes. We are together, this is the Flamengo,” the 22-year-old striker told those gathered at the ceremony.

“This has been the best season of my career both in terms of goals scored and trophies won. I came to Flamengo to win. Obviously the individual honours make the season better for me but the goal was always to win something with the team.

“I am very happy to have won the Brazilian title, Brazilian top scorer award and the Copa Libertadores and perhaps we can also win the Club World Cup too.”

Whilst on loan at the Rio de Janeiro club, Gabigol has scored no less than 43 goals in 57 appearances across all competitions.
