The ticket revenue for Inter’s match versus Barcelona in the Champions League last night is a new record for a match played in Italy, according to a report in today’s print edition of Corriere dello Sport.
71,818 fans took in Barcelona’s 2-1 win, a result which in turn eliminated Inter from the competition. The revenue from ticket sales totalled €7,889,495. The previous record for comparison purposes was €6.5 million and achieved back in October when Inter played host to Juventus.
The report from the Roman newspaper goes on to state that Milanese police stopped 62 Barcelona ultras in the hours leading up to the game. The ultras had a number of weapons on them but police prevented any contact whatsoever before taking the ultras to the police station.
