Barcelona have developed a serious interest in signing Inter striker Lautaro Martinez as the man to replace Luis Suarez according to a report in today’s print edition of Milanese newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

Despite the Blaugrana’s interest, Inter are understood to have no worries about the situation and are currently at work trying to tie the 22-year-old down to a new and improved contract.

The Nerazzurri are currently waiting for the right moment to offer the new deal to the Argentine international, who is currently one of the lowest paid first team players.

The report goes on to add that Lautaro’s affection for the club is also helping club management remain calm as Barcelona’s interest intensifies.

Lautaro’s current contract with the club, which runs until the end of the 2022/23 season, has a €111 million release clause in it but that clause is only available to be activated in the first two weeks of July. It remains to be seen if the clause will be eliminated or failing that, significantly increased, as part of the new deal.
