Milan city mayor Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Sala has made his thoughts and feelings on Inter and AC Milan’s new stadium project crystal clear.
“We Milanese have a certainty, we are owners of a stadium that has a value of €100 million. We spend €5 million on maintenance and earn €5 million through it,” he explained in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia.
“AC Milan and Inter have proposed to build a new stadium on our owned land and they are telling us that we should demolish the current stadium.
“They also tell us that we will be owners of the new stadium in 99 years time and we will receive rent after 33 years. The city council would go from having a stadium worth €100 million to having nothing.”
He concluded: “I am not a madman, it is not a good deal.”
Due to the ongoing debate regarding the future of San Siro, several reports in the media as of late have stated that Inter and AC Milan are considering alternative destinations for their stadium projects.
