Inter coach Antonio Conte spoke to Italian broadcaster InterTV following the Nerazzurri’s emphatic 4-0 win over Genoa at the San Siro tonight.
“We wanted to finish these five and a half months in which we started this path, in the best possible way. The boys responded in the right way, despite a situation that today had become even more problematic. We all took responsibility.
“I also like to mention a few names: Gagliardini wasn’t 100%, but he made himself available, he understood the difficult moment and played well.
“Borja Valero had gone out with a little injury in Florence and Matias Vecino clenched his teeth until the very end. When you have this type of player, who priorities ‘we’ over ‘I’, you must be very happy.
Conte then spoke about the team’s mentality.
“The guys know the score very well. The more time goes by, the more details fall into place, but our playing style is always the same.”
“I’m glad that, despite the difficulties we’ve faced in the last few months, we’re talking about having won 42 points. I’m sorry about the Champions League disappointment, especially the game against Barcelona, for what they showed, the team deserved much more.”
“And then I’m thinking about the draws against Roma and Fiorentina, games in which we deserved more. We take everything, in any case, and try to grow more and more.”
Finally, Conte discussed the brief appearance of midfielder Stefano Sensi.
“I’m very happy for Stefano, who has some very important characteristics from both a tactical and human point of view. He has suffered so much, and we have with him, today when we see the light again, we are all happier.”
