In an interview with Roman newspaper Il Messaggero, former UEFA president and ex-Juventus player Michel Platini has spoken on the race for the Serie A title this season.

“This year you cannot complain as finally it is a wide open season. Juventus are no longer the absolute favourites. Inter have shown themselves to be competitive and both Lazio and Roma are also doing well. Atalanta are doing good too,” he explained.

Antonio Conte’s Inter side currently lead the way at the top of the league table with 42 points after 17 games played. Juventus have also recorded the same points tally but are behind Inter on goal difference.

Supercoppa winners Lazio are in third with 36 points but do have a game in hand therefore they could cut the gap to three points if they win. Roma are in 4th with 35 points whilst Atalanta are in fifth place with 31 points to their name.
