Lionel Messi has urged Barcelona management to not sign Inter striker Lautaro Martinez according to a report from Spanish news outlet El Desmarque.

The multi-time world player of the year is understood to have told club officials to abandon the idea of signing his countryman to replace Luis Suarez as he does not wish for the club to replace Suarez, who is a close friend and someone he has a good relationship with on the pitch.

This news will come as a massive boost to Inter who have been at work trying to tie the 22-year-old striker down to a new and improved contract in a bid to deter interest in him.

Lautaro is currently under contract with the Nerazzurri until the end of the 2022/23 season and reports have stated Inter wish to extend his deal until 2024 and remove the €110 million release clause that is in his contract to give them more power when clubs inevitably come in for him.
