Former Milan and Roma coach Fabio Capello discussed the title race in an interview in today’s paper edition of the Turin based newspaper Tuttosport.

“Juventus and Inter are the favourites in the title race, two teams who have the will to win in their DNA. But watch out for the Romans, they play well and with personality. Plus, they’re fun to watch.”

The 73-year-old Italian spoke about the dangers of Lazio, who are currently third in the league.

“The team of the excellent Simone Inzaghi are not afraid to play against the favourites. Lazio play to win. They’re not afraid of losing. Juve are having problems with the Biancocelesti because they’re looking for the weak points of the Italian champions. And they’ve found them, with the quality they have.”

He spoke about whether football had changed compared to the football in the 1990’s.

“In many ways so much and I refer to technology, in others less because the common denominator is quality. I remember the 1994 Champions League final in Athens against Barcelona that we won 4-0. Massaro scored our second goal after a series of 24 uninterrupted passes. And I remember a famous phrase by Johan Cruyff, who was the coach of that Barça: ‘Football is like a short blanket. If you cover your feet your head remains uncovered, if you cover your head your feet remain uncovered’”

Finally, Capello touched on whether the role of a football coach has changed in the last 30 years.

“I believe that a coach should still have a very strict approach to his players. Clearly establish rules such as those on the dangerous use of social networks. You risk seeing a rift in the locker room if someone, or someone close to him, takes five minutes and lets off steam on a keyboard…”
