Juventus have joined the list of the five most popular sports clubs in the world on social media, according to a report published by ‘Sporting Intelligence’ detailed in today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.
The report details how the Turin based club are fifth in the rankings – which looks at the three most popular social media platforms (Twitter, Instagram and Facebook), behind Chelsea (81,087,951 followers), Manchester United (125,979,251 followers), Barcelona (213,614,164 followers) and Real Madrid (223,888,433 followers).
The second Italian club on the list is AC Milan, who are in 12th place, the report continues. Inter are 17th in the list (with 23,874,821 followers, compared to the Rossoneri’s 38,328,684 followers), although the Nerazzurri’s owners, the Suning Group, are working hard to increase the club’s popularity in China.
The list is dominated by football clubs, the report highlights, with the highest placing non-football club being NBA’s Los Angeles Lakers, who are in 11th place with 39,699,365 followers. Cricket is also very popular, especially in India, with four teams being in the top 30.
