Aston Villa have pulled out of the race to sign Chelsea’s Olivier Giroud this month according to a report from British broadcaster Sky Sports.
Villa had been pursuing a loan move for the 33-year-old Frenchman as well as a loan move for his Chelsea teammate Danny Drinkwater.
Premier League competition rules however only allow one loan between Premier League sides and Villa have therefore decided to abandon their pursuit of signing Giroud in favour of going all in for Drinkwater, who spent the first half of the 2019/20 season out on loan at Burnley.
Competition rules dictate that only one loan is allowed between the same two Premier League clubs, so #AVFC have opted to pursue a deal for Danny Drinkwater instead of Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud.https://t.co/JuLs4EG0RZ
