Inter manager Antonio Conte would have preferred to have a player who did not need a period of adaptation to be signed rather than Ashley Young, who Inter appear to be closing in on the signing of, according to a report in today’s print edition of Corriere dello Sport.

As per various reports in the media, Inter have already agreed personal terms with the 34-year-old full back on the basis of an 18 month contract and now just need to agree terms with Manchester United over his transfer.

Conte had initially told club bosses that he wanted Marcos Alonso signed due to the fact he is familiar with the player and the player is familiar with his methods and also has Serie A experience unlike Young.

Conte was however forced to abandon the idea of having the Spaniard in his ranks due to Chelsea’s €40 million demands for him, which Inter deem to be excessive.
