Dries Mertens future is looking increasingly likely to lie away from Napoli according to a report from the online edition of Milan based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Belgian forward’s deal with the under achieving Partenopei is due to expire at the end of this season and this has led to several clubs sparking an interest in signing him on a free transfer, including Inter.

Napoli are understood to have tabled him a two year contract extension but he has rejected it with him seemingly seeking a three year deal with this more than likely going to be his last big contract of his career.

The 32-year-old has been on Napoli’s books since the Summer of 2013 and has since went on to make 304 appearances across all competitions.

He has scored 118 goals in that time and is on the verge of becoming Napoli’s all time top scorer with him now just four goals away from beating the record of 121, which is held by Marek Hamsik.
