A report in today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport have taken a look at why Inter’s attempt to end Juventus’ domination in Serie A is different to the attempts made by other clubs in recent years.
Only once in the past three years have Juventus not found themselves points clear of the second placed side at this stage of the season.
In 2016/17, Juventus were four clear at the top, in 2017/18 they were a point behind Napoli, last season they were nine clear but this season they find themselves level on points with Antonio Conte’s Inter in what looks to be the most balanced Serie A in a number of years.
The report states that Inter are in a better position than Napoli have been in recent years when it comes to challenging Juventus as they have Conte in charge and Conte is someone who never gives up.
Moreover, Inter have had Romelu Lukaku scoring for fun and have managed to remain neck and neck with Juventus despite the injury crisis that wiped out half of the midfield for a considerable period.
The report goes on to conclude that if Inter get their signings right this month then the gap between the two clubs will be further reduced.
