In an interview with Passione Inter, former Inter defender Andrea Mandorlini has shared his thoughts on how the season has went so far for the Nerazzurri.
“We fans can only be happy, Inter are doing important things this season. I really believe in this team, they have given many important answers in games. It would be nice to fight and dream for the Scudetto until the end,” he began.
He was then asked who of all the names linked to Inter he would sign if it was down to him.
“They are all important names who play in great teams and who have also won titles. Someone like Vidal is an old acquaintance of Conte. It would be nice, Inter would get really strong.”
Next he spoke on Inter’s Romelu Lukaku.
“Him and Icardi are very different players. Icardi is more of a finisher but Lukaku plays far more for the team and is physically powerful. Lukaku is the kind of player I like. I did not think he would be so strong. I always wanted to see him play in Italy and now I have seen him, I am glad Inter brought him in.”
Next he spoke on Lukaku’s strike partner Lautaro Martinez.
“Lautaro did not surprise me, his enormous potential was already clear. He is growing and showing that he has important qualities.”
He proceeded to discuss Inter’s next match which comes at home to Atalanta.
“I know what Atalanta can do and they have many great qualities. They are a team that are well aware of their capabilities. The team can only shine even more. What they are doing is no longer a surprise. The match will surely be a good match because they are two teams at the top and probably two of the fittest teams too.
“I do not know how the game will go. I’d like both to win but it is not possible. I am sure it will be an open and beautiful game between two well built teams who are managed very well with strong ownership groups behind them.”
Mandorlini then spoke on Diego Godin.
“Perhaps you could have expected something more from a player who was the backbone of Atletico Madrid. Maybe he just needs more time to adapt, even though he is no longer young. I believe that he is a leader and his presence is very important. I would give him more time and in the end I think the real Godin will come out.”
He concluded the interview by speaking on 20-year-old Alessandro Bastoni who has been keeping Godin out of the team as of late.
“I liked him a lot when he was with Parma last season. His agent Tullio Tinti is in fact a very dear friend of mine. He plays well with the ball at his feet and is strong and good in the air.
“He is playing with consistency in a team like Inter therefore he deserves a great deal of credit and so do the club for believing in him.”
