Inter legend Youri Djorkaeff has discussed how things have changed in Serie A compared to when he was playing in it.
“The whole world can see that Juventus are on another level, but it seems to me that Inter, step by step, is starting to get closer to them. I hope that Inter will win the league again in the future,” he explained in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia.
“In my day there were also AC Milan, Lazio, Roma, Fiorentina and other teams that made the league very strong. It was always decided in the last days, not like now. The Serie A must return to being very strong.”
He then spoke on Antonio Conte’s tenure in charge of the club so far.
“I will be honest, I was amazed to see Conte sign with Inter but in the end he has done a great job and we have to give him credit. I hope things continue like they have been as it will let Inter get to years they have not been at in recent years.”
The Frenchman then spoke on the media speculation linking Inter with a move for his countryman, Olivier Giroud.
“I like him very much, they often told him that he is not a great player but in the end he is one who fights, scores, plays for the team and makes the difference.”
In conclusion he was asked if he thinks Inter have what it takes to win the Serie A title.
“Inter are credible candidates to win the title. We will have to see what happens on the transfer market. Inter must fight hard and even if they do not win it this year the important thing is to understand that they must fight. It will be difficult but Inter must start taking steps.”
