No less than 311,740 people flocked to stadiums this past weekend to take in one of the 10 Serie A games on offer, a report in today’s print edition of Milan based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport highlights.

Inter’s 1-1 draw with Atalanta was the best attended match in the country as 70,042 witnessed the match between the Nerazzurri clubs at San Siro on Saturday evening.

Following this weekends action, which was the final action of the first half of the season, the average attendance across the league sits at 26,952.

Some 5.2 million fans overall have taken in a Serie A match this season meaning by the end of the season should this trend continue, over 10 million fans will have watched a Serie A match live in a stadium.

It is therefore very much possible that the current record of 10,466,645 fans over the whole season, a record that was set some 29 years ago in the 1991/92 season, could be beaten.
